From Professor D'ARCY W. THOMPSON, M.A., C.B., Chair of Natural History, University College (University of St Andrews).

I am glad to hear that there is a prospect of pupil, Miss P. V. ANDERSON, applying for a post in the my old Shortwood Training College in Jamaica.

It is some half a dozen years since Miss ANDERSON attended my class, but I have a very clear recollection of her work as a student, which work was highly credit- able to her. And I have still a better recollection of the fact that in her University Examination in Zoology for her Degree she made an excellent appearance, and carned the commendation of the External Examiner.

I think that Miss ANDERSON is quite competent to teach such elementary Zoology as is likely to be required in the Training College, and I should have great hopes that, amid the rich fauna of the West Indies, she will renew her interest in my science, and make further progress where she has already made a good beginning.

(Signed) D'ARCY W. THOMPSON.
